Philosophy

We believe that good design thinking can drive change, and courageous colour and material choices will determine better future product. A kinder and wiser approach to using colour will transform the way that we manufacture and produce goods, benefitting all living beings associated in this exchange.

A dream of a regenerative future

Colour and material futures sit at the heart of Luminary, yet beauty is so much deeper than surface level. Our stories have deep rooted connections to the origin of colour and long-term future intentions, way beyond a single season. We dream of a regenerative future, exploring a wiser, more intuitive way of making and creating. Luminary aims to instil more responsible principles across all aspects of our work to elevate ‘sustainable’ design and consumption practices in the minds of our clients. As makers and creators, it is our responsibility to embed regenerative principles inside the systems in which we design, manufacture, sell and consume products. This is why we actively curate stories of conscious design, which will in turn will drive client strategies that will transform product development.

01

We believe that change is possible.

The fashion and textile industry is one of the world’s leading environmental polluters, and this knowledge fuels our purpose and approach. At Luminary, we’re dreaming of a future era where colour and materials can be created without the use of fossil fuels, precious natural resources, or harmful chemicals. Our work reveals the ground-breaking makers and emerging creatives who are rewriting the industry of colour today, enabling our brand clients to adopt a mindset shift in how they approach colour and materials.

02

We look way beyond a single season.

Luminary is an invitation to deepen your enquiry, to look beyond the fast pace of fashion ‘seasons’ toward more considered solutions. We build slower, gentle colour stories in response to this transformational era we are living in. We develop our rich research beyond ‘trend forecasting’, our future insights offer you a visual framework of beautiful design resources, enabling design teams to communicate radical new ideas, to elevate your product trajectory.

03

This is a transformative era.

We’re living in times of great upheaval and transformation, but a brave new era of design is breaking through with new ‘trends’, born out of holistic, and regenerative practices which foster a deep reciprocal relationship with the natural origin of our materials and resources. It’s time to reconfigure our relationship with colour and material development. Brands have a responsibility to cultivate new partnerships and invest in ingenious original thinking. We have a part to play in this.

04

A more beautiful Future.

There has never been a more important era for forward-thinking design ideas and creative visionaries who push for new solutions. To live and work during these turbulent times, is to play a part in driving vital change. Through her role as a future forecaster, Anna is deeply entangled in this shifting future world, driving and creating 'trends' that are both beautiful AND responsible.

Our Values

Our working principles:

Look beyond the horizon

Our ongoing studio research is driven by a purpose to find the hopeful solutions and future thinking which will inspire our clients to seek out better ways of making, and creating.

Liberate your creativity

We want to actively untether creative expression, and give people the space and ability to think deeply and consciously about HOW they create. Our stories will shift your internal narrative.

Good things take time

What we do is a labour of love. Taking time to think, craft and bring meaning to our work, we present a long-term view, building colour trends that inspire the heirlooms of tomorrow.

The quiet activist

Planting seeds of positive change in every business we touch, actively sharing the insights and solutions our clients need to reframe their future design strategy.

Act consciously

Our stories come from the heart, our intention is to inspire a kinder, more gentle approach to designing, taking the time to think carefully about what we do and how we do it.

Grounded design

Nature is our constant source of inspiration, guiding us to consider the impact of our work. We sit at the intersection between colour ecology and the global design industries.
